Your three branch delegates at the Local Government conference in Brighton. (The bloke with us is the vice chair of local government service group). At yesterday’s’ session, a wide range of motions were discussed and agreed : fighting privatisation, raising the profile of local government workers, council housing, opposing the National Accreditation system for social workers were just some of the important issues debated. There was also a motion on mental health and workloads which highlighted the toll which work stress is taking on the psychological well-being of our members and which I had the opportunity to speak on. Another full agenda for today, with this morning’s session including motions on equality issues and the focus of the afternoon’s season’s session is on schools and further education and Cathy Davis is planning on speaking on the motion on organising in schools and multi-academy trusts.
