Branch Secretary Blog Post: Update on Pay and Upcoming Activity

Hi everyone,

I hope you have all been able to enjoy some sunshine this week. We have some updates to share with you before the weekend

NJC Pay

We received a final pay offer from the National Joint Council (NJC) in July, which was a flat rate increase on all spinal column points of £1,925 to be implemented from 1 April 2022. We will be balloting members on this offer in the coming weeks and asking if you would like to accept or reject the offer.

Please keep an eye out for further information and emails from us regarding this. In the meantime, please make sure your contact details are up to date on my.unison.org.uk. It is really important to vote in this ballot so that UNISON can act on your behalf.

We’re looking for members to become active members of our branch! We need your help to ensure we can provide the best service possible to our wonderful members. If you would like to get involved in UNISON, now is your time!

UNISON Needs You

We are really keen to have some new reps on our team. You don’t have to commit a lot of your time or be an expert to get more involved, you will receive full training, as well as ongoing support and mentoring from both your Branch and Region.

All that’s needed is a little time and a lot of enthusiasm, you’ll be amazed how much you get out of it.

If this is something you might be interested in or want to find out more please contact the Branch office. You can also register your interest here.

Workplace Visits

We have been out and about visiting lots of workplaces over the past couple of weeks and it’s been lovely seeing people face to face again.

This week, we held a stall at County Hall. We will be there once a month for the rest of the year, so please keep an eye out for us. The next stall is planned for the 31st August from 11:30am – 1:30pm.

We also visited our members in Active Northumberland sites in Ashington, Blyth and Cramlington. We will be visiting Morpeth Riverside on Thursday 25th August.

We dropped in to see our members at the Cramlington Hub too and it was lovely to see our members and hear their views on the pay offer.

We are busy planning our visits for the rest of the year so if you would like us to visit your workplace, please contact the branch as we would love to come see you!

Representation Work

We currently have a few ongoing consultations and TUPEs which we are supporting our members with. We expect to have a few more coming up too. If you require any advice or representation, please get in touch with the Branch.

UNISON Benefits

As well as representation, there are a wide range of benefits available to UNISON members. Including low cost holidays and money off on Vauxhall cars. You can find out more here

Newcastle Mela

UNISON is proud to be sponsoring the Newcastle Mela again this year. It is taking place on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August from 12pm – 5pm. If you would like to attend, you can find out more here.

Best wishes,
